Bringing you... The Making Of "An Introduction To MacroFine Photography'"
Yeah, we all want to be Movie Stars... It's not as easy as it looks!
Today we were practicing and experimenting with a video of our mugs... As you can see and hear, not everything went according to plan.

We 're making Mini Bud Vases today...
We print the design on our sublimation paper and wrap this, together with a special sublimation "shrink-wrap", around the ceramic vase . Special tape holds the sublimation paper and shrink-wrap in place. Pressure is needed for the process, so Kathy is using a heat gun to shrink the shrink-wrap tightly to the vase for baking. Next, we use a convection oven to cook the bud vase at 400 degrees for 10 minutes and ... Voila! We have wonderful mini bud vases..

Today, we're building a 12 x 12 Aluminum Wall Sculptures ...
We start with this beautiful image Chris took last year in Alexandria, VA of a ladybug walking across a dew-kissed white Chrysanthemum. We begin with the image printed on sublimation paper with sublimation ink. Then Kathy attaches this paper to a pre-coated piece of sublimation aluminum. We put it in the heat press under pressure for 90 seconds at 400 degrees. As you can see the image is then bonded to the aluminum. Next we are attaching the sculptural element to the base piece we just printed using adhesive and a block of wood. We use weights to make sure the piece doesn't drift and the bond is secure. Voila! We have the final piece!

The Making of a MindScape
Our new "MindScapes" take the viewer's mind and senses on a Nature Journey from inside our studio. These are new to our line and we are creating the images in our studio. Using a combination of purchased flowers, flowers and plants we grow in our garden, and other natural found objects, we create "flat bouquets" to photograph. Flowers and plants require that we work quickly, while they remain fresh, and we loosely plan out the layout and colors in advance. The final layout comes together after we begin working with the elements and we see where they lead us. And yes, it's a very messy process! Enjoy this slideshow. |
