Volunteering
We spend a lot of time exploring green spaces. We're lucky in this area to have so many places to choose from among to explore. Unfortunately, not everyone takes care of these places. We're dismayed at the amount of trash people leave lying about so we decided to do something about it.
Kathy and I decided we needed to be part of the solution. Each time we visit parks, green spaces, and forests, we pick up any trash that someone else has left behind. We pack along a bag to put it in -- and lots of hand sanitizer.
The great news is that we are making a difference. We visit the Jackson Abbot Wetlands daily to get in our exercise and we pick up trash every time we're there. At first we collected far too much but we have noticed that by keeping it clean, others have taken up the call and we collect far fewer pieces on each trip.
What type of trash do we pick up the most? Plastic drink bottles.
